Celebrating 50 years of Mike Leckrone

I had the pleasure to make a quick trip to the Kohl Center before Professor Leckrone's last performance to deliver a special resolution from the WI Legislature congratulating him on 50 years directing the UW-Madison band and wishing him all the best in retirement! The Senate and Assembly just passed the resolution authored by me and Senator Alberta Darling last week!

Project Lead the Way

This week, schools from across the State of Wisconsin came to the Capitol to show off their projects they have been working on in their Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes. I enjoyed visiting with students and staff from the Elkhorn Area School District (EASD) and learning about the projects they have been working on. It is absolutely amazing to see what these grade school kids have accomplished; first graders coded their own video skits and third and fourth graders built a small robot! The students were joined by their teachers, including Eryca Card, PLTW Coordinator in the EASD who was recently named PLTW Educational Leader of the Year!

Budget Listening Sessions

As the Vice Co-Chair of the Joint Finance Committee, my staff and I have been very busy analyzing various elements of Gov. Evers proposed 2019-2020 biennial budget. I have also been traveling throughout the 31st Assembly District and all across Wisconsin to participate in public hearings and listening sessions on the budget. Starting in May the committee will begin to take up motions in Executive Session to accept, reject, or amend individual proposals in the budget. Budget papers prepared by the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau are available here.
