Budget Update

The 2017-2019 budget is not quite finished. Issue areas that remain to be decided include  K-12 education funding, taxes and transportation. Unlike the federal government, Wisconsin does not shut down; instead we continue funding at the prior year levels. I am hopeful that as discussions continue, we'll be able to reach final agreement on these important issues for Wisconsin's citizens.

Wisconn Valley

Last week, Wisconsin received some incredible news. Foxconn, a technology manufacturing company, is planning to build a facility in Southeastern Wisconsin. Investing $10 billion dollars and creating thousands of family supporting jobs in the region. A development of this size and scope will transform for our state’s economy.

Governor Walker called a Special Session for Foxconn. The Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy is holding a public hearing on the bill today. As a legislator, it is my responsibility to take a critical look at every piece of legislation that comes before me and make a decision to approve, deny, or amend. Legislative review of the proposal is just beginning, and the committee will vote before the bill is taken up by the full Senate and Assembly.

Fire Chiefs Award

I am honored to be the Wisconsin Fire Chief's Association Legislator of the Year for the Community EMS bills that I've been working on. The Fire Chiefs stopped by to present the award, and my staffer who worked on the bills, Danielle, was also presented with an award and accepted both awards.

All Aboard!

On a special train excursion from Fox Lake, IL to Janesville, WI last week, I learned a lot about the partnership Wisconsin and our counties have with Wisconsin & Southern Railroad. They serve industries in Rock and Walworth Counties and all across Wisconsin.
