Update on Bills

Community EMS- AB 151

Earlier this week, AB 151 received a public hearing before the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. AB 151 creates and defines community paramedics (CPs) and community emergency medical technicians (CEMTs). It will allow for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to operate in a non-emergency setting, under the medical direction of a physician, to provide treatment outside of a hospital. Over the last two years, my office has worked with several stakeholder groups to create a bill that we believe encourages partnerships to provide quality care for people all across Wisconsin, while providing appropriate oversight and training. We wanted to find balance while providing flexibility for these programs to truly reflect the needs that each individual community faces. AB 151 passed the Wisconsin State Assembly in April by a bipartisan, unanimous vote and is now awaiting action in the Senate. Burial Mounds- AB 118

AB 118 received a public hearing and was voted on in the Assembly Committee on Environment and Forestry this week. AB 118 is the result of the Legislative Study Committee on the Preservation of Burial Sites that I chaired last summer. The Study Committee was tasked with reviewing Wisconsin's current burial sites preservation law to determine whether it adequately balances the interests of scientists, landowners, developers and others with an interest in a burial site, including those with a kinship interest and those with a general cultural, tribal, or religious affiliation. The bill was unanimously passed out of committee and awaits action by the Assembly. Click here for my testimony and click more information about the bill.

 Wisconsin Taxes Below National Average

Last week it was reported that Wisconsin taxes have fallen below the national average! This is great news for Wisconsin. Once known as a high tax state, we have improved our tax environment, putting more money back into your pockets.

In 2010, Wisconsin was in the top ten for worst states in the nation for taxation. It is no coincidence that under the leadership of Governor Walker and the Republican-led legislature taxes have fallen on a steady decline. We know the money sent to Madison is yours. We have made it a priority to put more money back into your pocket, allowing you to invest in the things that matter most to you and your family. We know you live on a budget, not spending more than you take in. So when we have additional funds due to our conservative fiscal reforms, we make sure to return it back to you, the taxpayer.

As we continue the legislative session, I will be sure to keep fighting for the taxpayers of Wisconsin.

  In The District

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful ceremony for inducting six individuals into the Beloit City Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Stephanie Klett, Joe Moen, Jerry and Connie Sveum, Bonnie Wetter, and John Wong!
