Meeting with Governor Evers

This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Governor Tony Evers to talk about issues that are important to the 31st Assembly District. We had a productive conversation and I appreciated the opportunity to officially meet him.

Bills I'm Authoring

This week, I circulated co-sponsorship memos and bill drafts for two legislative proposals I have been working on.

The first bill draft (LRB-1297/1) would make common sense changes to allow the Department of Revenue to disclose tax liability to a business owner who is looking to purchase a business or purchase inventory from a business that is closing. This bill will prevent individuals from unknowingly becoming liable for unpaid taxes of a previous business owner due to successor liability provisions in Wisconsin’s tax code. Bill Draft and Co-Sponsor Memo - Sales Tax Liability relating to: the disclosure of a retailer's sales tax liability to a successor.

The second bill draft, (LRB-1459/1) would allow a minor who is 17 years of age and is confirmed by a local educational agency liaison to be both unaccompanied (not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian) and homeless (living situation is not “fixed, regular, and adequate”) to contract for admission to a shelter facility or transitional living program.   Unaccompanied and homeless youth are vulnerable to human trafficking, exploitation, and abuse. Providing these young people with an opportunity for safe shelter and other supports so they can complete their education and become self-supporting adults will reduce their risk for negative outcomes. Bill Draft and Co-Sponsor MemoShelter Admission relating to: a minor contracting for admission to a shelter facility or transitional living program.

I have a great list of legislators from both sides of the aisle already signing on in support of these proposals. It is very rewarding to have the opportunity to advance the policy ideas of statewide interest that I have developed based on real people and stories from the 31st Assembly District!

DNR Secretary Preston Cole

DNR Secretary-designee Preston Cole and I had the opportunity to sit down and talk about his ideas to make the DNR more efficient, productive and customer-friendly and the ideas I am working on to improve water quality in Wisconsin.

The IRS has eliminated Forms 1040A and 1040EZ. To correspond with the federal change, Forms 1A and WI-Z for tax year 2018 were also eliminated. Form 1 is the replacement form for Wisconsin residents, and Wisconsin nonresidents and part-year residents should use Form 1NPR.  Use the links below for additional information.
