 Bill Signing

This week, Governor Walker signed Assembly Bill 615 into law. AB 615 directs courts to automatically forward restraining order documents to law enforcement to execute service. Once service is accomplished, law enforcement may use the Wisconsin Statewide Victim Notification service (VINE) to provide notification to the victim of service.  With advances in technology, this bill is long overdue because there is no reason that a victim seeking a temporary restraining order needs to take their court documents to the Sheriff to ensure they are served.

My final bill will be signed by Governor Walker next week. Senate Bill 618 is my fifth bill this session to combat Human Trafficking. I am proud of the progress Wisconsin has made in the past five years to fight human trafficking by providing additional tools for law enforcement and prosecutors. This bill addresses the prevention and treatment of child sex trafficking victims. The services and response provided under the bill are another huge step forward for vulnerable youth in Wisconsin.

Great Lakes Basin Rail Project Update

As I mentioned in my e-update on March 18, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) has opened the public comment period for the proposed Great Lakes Basin Rail Line.  A public hearing will be held in Janesville on April 18, 2016 at  5:30 p.m.-8 p.m., in the Craig High School cafeteria, 401 South Randall St.

The map below illustrates the area that will be studied in the environmental impact statement (EIS) scoping process.  Please note that the route could be modified substantially and the STB's analysis may include alternative routes within 30 miles of the proposed route.  The yellow shaded area is an approximation of the  potentially impacted area.  Please feel free to share this information with your friends and neighbors as the public comment period is already underway and ends June 15, 2016.

As you will notice below, this is my final e-newsletter for the legislative session so be sure to watch local media or check the links below for additional information.

 New Tourism Summer Ads

Travel Wisconsin’s brand of fun just got “real” in a new marketing campaign unveiled recently by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. The new commercials put a spotlight on Wisconsin’s playful side, with two authentic experiences taking center stage: supper clubs and family and pet travel. Take a look at the new ads!
