Shannon Zimmerman Disappointed Governor Vetoed Tax Cut

(Madison) Representative Shannon Zimmerman (R-River Falls) said the following in response to Governor Tony Evers vetoing Senate Bill 821, the middle class tax cut.

“For the second time this session, the Governor has vetoed a middle class tax cut” said Rep. Zimmerman. “The reality of government is that if we don’t consciously make the decision to return their money to them, it will always be spent on something, and I believe the taxpayer is our number one priority.”

Senate Bill 821 would have increased the maximum standard deduction, resulting in an average savings of $106 per filer. The bill would have also eliminated the personal property tax on machinery, tools, and patterns, and the bill would have used $100 million of the surplus to pay down state debt.

“District 30 has grown so explosively not because of government largesse, but because of the innovation and work ethic of the people here” said Zimmerman. “Tax cuts are an investment in our Wisconsin workers and businesses, who give us the resources to spend on other priorities.”
