Joint Finance Committee Update
This week, my colleagues and I on the Joint Committee on Finance voted on a recommendation from the Speaker's Task Force on Suicide Prevention. The Task Force recommended, and the committee approved, the release of $220,000 over the next two years to a suicide prevention group for a text-based hotline.
If you or someone you care about needs help, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or text the Wisconsin HOPELINE at 741741.
In addition to providing the funding for suicide prevention efforts, we also took important action on helping farmers in Wisconsin by approving the funds for a new Dairy Innovation Hub in the UW System.
The Dairy Innovation Hub will conduct research at UW-Madison, UW-Platteville and UW-River Falls, and will focus its research on stewarding land and water resources, enriching human health, ensuring animal welfare, and growing farm businesses and communities.
It is vital that we work together to ensure that we have healthy and growing farms here in America's Dairyland. I believe that the Dairy Innovation Hub will help Wisconsin farmers be successful in this competitive international market.
As always, I encourage you to follow my updates on social media or contact my office directly with your questions. Best wishes on your weekend!

Manufacturing Month
October is Manufacturing Month, where we recognize the significant impact that manufacturers have in Wisconsin's economy.
According to 2016 numbers, manufacturers employ nearly one-sixth of Wisconsin's workforce and contribute nearly $60 billion to the economy. Manufacturing is an important industry in Wisconsin, and one that continues to move Wisconsin forward in today's economy.
