Happening Throughout the District
While this e-update will focus on the important work that many throughout Sheboygan County are doing to better the community, I wanted to update you on what happened in the Assembly this week.
My colleagues and I convened to vote on many of the bills introduced as a result of the Speaker's Task Force on Suicide Prevention. Passing with strong bipartisan support, this legislation aims to help reverse the trend of increasing suicide rates in the state. If you would like more information on the bills that are included in this package, click here.
If you or someone you care about needs help, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800- 273-TALK (8255) or text the Wisconsin HOPELINE at 741741.
As always, I encourage you to follow my updates on social media or contact my office directly with your questions. Best wishes on your weekend!
Adult Family Homes
Earlier this week I was able to visit with two organizations that provide a great service to our community: Milestones Adult Family Home and Our Home Christian Ministries.
Milestones provides high-quality care to those who cannot provide for themselves, while Our Home Christian Ministries provides an independent family home environment for adults with disabilities. With compassion, professionalism and care these organizations and their staff do an amazing job in ensuring that all their residents are well taken care of.
Thank you to both organizations for the tours and for all you do for Sheboygan County.
Telehealth Demonstration at St. Nicholas Hospital
On Monday, officials at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan demonstrated how their telehealth technology works to provide care to patients from around the state. Telehealth uses video and remote technology to provide quality care to patients in an efficient manner.
Additionally, the Assembly passed Senate Bill 300, which requires Medicaid to treat telehealth the same as in-person services in terms of coverage for patients and reimbursement for providers. This legislation is important to ensure that patients get the care they need without increasing costs.
Lakeshore Technical College Ribbon Cutting
I joined officials of Lakeshore Technical College at the ribbon cutting of the new Sheboygan campus location. This new campus provides a state-of-the-art learning environment to help students succeed on every level.
Listening Sessions
Thank you to everyone who showed up and participated in the listening sessions I held with Sen. Devin LeMahieu and Rep. Tyler Vorpagel. The conversations we had in both Cedar Grove and Sheboygan were productive, and I appreciate hearing about the issues most affecting Sheboygan County.
If you were unable to attend, please know that you can always contact my office at 608-266-0656 or at Rep.Katsma@legis.wisconsin.gov.
