Health Services in the Budget

Over the next couple of weeks I will be telling you why the investments that we made in the WISCONSIN budget are good for Wisconsin. This week I want to highlight Health Services and how this budget increases healthcare access and affordability for millions of Wisconsinites.

Republicans were able to produce a budget that provides an increase of more than $1.6 billion for health care services without expanding welfare.

Included is an increase in payments to nursing homes by $74 million and raising caregiver wages by over $150 million to both curb the rising number of nursing home closures that we have seen in Wisconsin and ensure staff are available for those who need care.

This budget also continued funding for the Healthcare Stability Plan that decreased private healthcare premiums by 10% in 2019 compared to having no stability plan. This continues our goal of ensuring that healthcare in Wisconsin is affordable to all.

These investments build on the legislation that the Assembly passed earlier this session that guarantees protections for Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions.

As always, I encourage you to follow my updates on social media or contact my office directly with your questions.  Best wishes on your weekend!

Stay Safe in the Heat

July and August in Wisconsin can bring some extreme heat, so please follow these tips from the Wisconsin Emergency Management to stay safe:

Stay Cool: Remain inside air-conditioned buildings as much as possible during the hottest parts of the day and avoid direct sunlight.

Stay Aware: Watch for signs of heat-related illnesses, such as weakness, dizziness, nausea, and muscle cramps. If symptoms don't improve, seek medical attention.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water. Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink!

Stay Informed: Pay attention to local weather forecasts and extreme heat alerts.

Saturday is your last chance to see the pop-up Apollo 11 exhibit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the historic mission. If you are traveling the state and are stopping in Madison, the display is at the Wisconsin Historical Museum and includes a display of a Wisconsin flag that was carried to the moon and back on the mission. For more information, click here.
