Investing in Workers

Following up on my previous highlights of Health Services and transportation funding in the budget, this week I am discussing what we accomplished to bolster Wisconsin's workforce.

Wisconsin has seen record-low unemployment by having an unemployment rate below three percent for the last 17 months. We continue to need people coming into the workforce, and this budget works to promote worker training in Wisconsin.

The budget provides a $25 million increase for Wisconsin's Technical College System, which provides world-class real-world training for both young professionals working to jump start their careers and those who are looking to develop additional skills to move ahead in their profession.

Additionally, funding for Career and Technical Education grants, which increase access to technical education courses for high school students, was increased by $6 million.

While it is vital to encourage participation in the workforce, Governor Tony Evers used his veto pen to make it easier for people to remain on welfare. Governor Evers removed $20 million in funds to help able-bodied adults get the education or training they need to reenter the workforce. In addition to removing the funds for training, he also removed funding for the drug screening and providing substance abuse treatment for those found to be using drugs illegally.

Due to our fall schedule, my office will not be sending out an e-update for the next couple of weeks. You can stay connected to my office by following my updates on social media or contact my office directly with your questions. Best wishes on your weekend!

Congratulations Alex!

Congratulations to Alex Cunningham for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! Alex restored and refurbished a neglected cemetery in Sheboygan Falls for his Eagle Scout Project. I was proud to provide Alex with a citation and an American Flag to celebrate his accomplishments.
