The Budget: A Fiscal Bill

This week, legislative leaders released a list of a number of policy items that will be taken out of the budget to be debated as separate legislation.

When Governor Tony Evers announced his Executive Budget, it was a bill full of policy, both fiscal and non-fiscal. The non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau identified 71 proposals in the Governor's budget that are non-fiscal (do not relate to revenues), and the Joint Committee on Finance will be voting to remove these policies from budget consideration.

I will be voting to remove these policies from consideration because the budget that Governor Evers introduced starts with a $2 billion structural deficit and jeopardizes the progress we've made in the last eight years.

Wisconsin has experienced tremendous growth over the last eight years. Wisconsin is on its 14th straight month of unemployment at or below 3%. Last year, we had the highest GDP growth since 2010 and will start this budget process with one of the largest balances in 20 years. We can't afford to go backward now.

As always, I encourage you to follow my updates on social media or contact my office directly with your questions.  Best wishes on your weekend!

Highway 23 Ground Breaking!

Beginning next week we will see the welcome sign of orange construction barrels on Highway 23! Ground breaking for the expansion of Highway 23 will be next Wednesday, May 8th, with the full project being expected to conclude in 2022.

I am excited for the people of Sheboygan County who drive on this road every day. This is welcome news to so many of us who have felt the need for this expansion for the safety and economic well-being of our area.

Fishing Season Beginning

May 4th marks the beginning of fishing season in Wisconsin! Before you go out, don't forget to get your fishing license if you are over the age of 16 and to brush up on the regulations.

Wisconsin receives over $1.5 billion annually from the more than 2 million anglers that use this great natural resource.
