As we are still in the midst of this national emergency, I would like my E-update to serve again as a way people can access information that will help them during these challenging times.
As a legislator, one way I can best serve you is to sift through the clutter of information out there so that you can make the best decisions for you and your family. Whether your work has been affected or you are concerned about your health, below you will find useful links and important information.

If Your Job Has Been Impacted
- Official information from the state of Wisconsin – Visit https://evers.wi.gov/Pages/Home.aspx. This is the site where official notices and orders are posted.
- Unemployment benefits -- To begin the process of filing for unemployment, start at https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/uiben/ and then click on “Apply for Benefits Online”. You will also see an option called “Handbook for Claimants”. This handbook will answer almost any question you may have.
- For those seeking new or temporary work – You can view what work is available in various occupations right from your home. Go to http://wisconsinjobcenter.org/lookforjobs/in-demand.htm to begin.
If Your Business Has Been Impacted
- Small Business 20/20 – The Small Business 20/20 Program provides grant funds to approved community development financial institutions (CDFIs). Approved CDFIs will award grants of up to $20,000 to their existing loan clients to assist with cash-flow challenges resulting from COVID-19. More info can be found here.
- SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program –Businesses with 500 or fewer employees may qualify for up to a $2 million loan with interest rates of 3.75% for for-profit and 2.75% for nonprofits and payments for up to 30 years. As of today, businesses may also defer payments on these loans for 12 months.
- Loans can be used for working capital to keep business open and cover fixed costs and bills.
- When filing out an application, SBA staff recommend saving your information, as the website has kicked individuals off while completing the application.

- If possible, nonessential businesses are encouraged to have employees work from home and maintain minimal basic operations such as payroll and security for your business.
If You Are at Higher Risk for Severe Illness
Based on current and quickly developing information, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes certain people may be at a higher risk for severe illness developed from COVID-19. To ensure you and your loved ones have the information you need to stay safe and healthy during this time, I want you to be aware of the following:
- The CDC believes those at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 include:
- People aged 65 years and older
- People who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility
- People with underlying medical conditions, which could include the following:
- People with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
- People who have serious heart conditions
- People who are immunocompromised including cancer treatment
- People of any age with severe obesity or certain underlying medical conditions, particularly if not well controlled, such as those with diabetes, renal failure, or liver disease might also be at risk
- It’s recommended that people who are pregnant be monitored

Happy Easter!
Easter is special time of the year when we remember Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day after dying for our sins. As you celebrate this weekend with your families, I'd like to leave you with this verse from the Gospel of John:
"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

Request a Blue Book Today!
 The 2019-2020 State of Wisconsin Blue Book is now available. It's published biennially by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau. The Blue Book is a valuable source of information on state government, the legislative process and the history of our state. The featured article in the book is called: A HERO'S WELCOME, How the 1919 Wisconsin Legislature overcame divisions to enact innovative veterans legislation following World War I.
