Hello,

Area legislators recently came together for a meeting with Terry Stevenson, a sales manager from Seehafer Broadcasting Corporation and a dear friend of mine, during the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association legislative day. It was great catching up and hearing about issues facing broadcasters across the state. I am thankful he took the time to represent our area's broadcasting interests during this meeting, so legislators know the best ways to support media outlets as they serve the public.

Our communities are vibrant and full of great broadcasters, news outlets, and young professionals. In fact, Terry went on after our meeting to win the Young Professional of the Year award from the Manitowoc County Chamber of Commerce at the 101st annual award dinner. Many community members were honored during the event, including Champion of the Year Jeremiah Novak, Athena award recipient Judy Corrado, and Joseph P. Schmitt award winner David Diedrich. I would like to congratulate all of the honorees who give so much to their community.

If there is anything I can do to assist you, please contact my office. You can share your thoughts, find out additional information on issues, or see where I stand on any legislation. I look forward to hearing from you and, as always, working for you.

Sincerely,

Joint Public Hearing

We heard testimony on one bill in a joint public hearing between the Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Small Business, and Tourism. The bill regulates rental-purchase agreements and exempts these agreements from the Wisconsin Consumer Act.

Many individuals came forward to provide their thoughts on the bill. You can read the testimony and the bill text for a better understanding of what took place during this meeting. I sat next to Representative Kleefisch during the public hearing, and we discussed the bill's implications as we listened to testimony.

Thanks for Stopping By!

Kati Seiter is passionate about music education, and I enjoyed hearing from her during the Wisconsin Music Educators Association's legislative day. Kati is a music educator in the Manitowoc Public School District, who also plays the oboe and the English horn. I appreciated her visit to my office.

 Another thank you...

...goes out to Jason Ring. He met with me at my office during the Wisconsin Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus' legislative day last week.

Jason is the president of the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau, and he does a great job in our community!

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Visits the Office

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary Miller visited my office this week to speak about upcoming changes in higher education taking place in Northeastern Wisconsin. I enjoyed hearing from him and discussing the exciting changes happening at UW-Green Bay.

Tuition for Veterans

This week, we heard testimony during a public hearing in the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs. The bill would expand UW-system resident tuition to certain veterans and their family members to fill a recently identified gap in veterans benefits.

Wisconsin, like many other states, began offering veterans and some of their family members in-state tuition years ago. More recently, veterans who received in-state tuition for undergraduate work found they were no longer eligible during graduate studies and would have to pay out-of-state rates. Many of the in-state tuition offerings were established by university policy, so this bill puts requirements into state law.
