Veterans Issues at the Forefront

  Veterans 500.jpg

Hello,

The Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs met last week and heard public comments on three bills: AB 585, AB 520, and AB 436.

AB 585 would allow law enforcement to use the Department of Justice's network to send out "green alerts" about missing, at-risk veterans or armed forces members suffering from service-related conditions.

AB 520 would alter the current law so recipients of U.S. armed forces awards equal to or higher than the Purple Heart have precedence for hunting, trapping, and fishing approvals and pay at a reduced rate. This expands current law that only provides these benefits to Purple Heart recipients.

Finally, AB 436 would change current law and expand property tax exemptions from 100% service-connected disabled veterans, to those with a 70% rating or above.

As a committee member, I am grateful to the individuals who came out on both sides of these bills to provide their perspective. I was truly moved by the testimonies made in the public hearing and urge you to watch the committee meeting to get a better understanding of this legislation and the people it will affect.

The legislature is dedicated to quality reform to benefit our most vulnerable populations, including veterans. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding legislation, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Representative Paul Tittl

Thanksgiving 250.jpg

As Thanksgiving approaches, I will reflect on a few things I am thankful for. I am grateful for my freedom in the best country in the world and the military that keeps it free. I'm also thankful for my God and the freedoms I receive from Him. I cannot forget to be appreciative of the family I have to celebrate with.

Additionally, I'm grateful for YOU, the people who put me in office, and the privilege of representing you and collaborating with hard-working, dedicated legislators to improve the state we love.

We have accomplished a lot this session including the Foxconn legislation, the budget, and different legislative reforms, but we still have more to do. I am excited to continue our work, but first, I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday!

I was proud to chat with this esteemed group of individuals after the meeting. Hearing from veterans and other legislators deepened my understanding of the bills and their potential implications on Wisconsinites.

It was wonderful having former State Senator and Vietnam War veteran Dave Zien back in the capitol. I enjoyed hearing his thoughts and learning more about his life. In case you don't know, he is the man behind me with the impressive beard!
