Budget, Foxconn Move Forward

  floor 350.jpg

Hello,

There have been some big votes this week that I think will move Wisconsin forward in the right direction. The Assembly debated the budget for 11 hours on Wednesday before passing it. The Foxconn bill then passed on Thursday, so its next stop is the Governor's desk for signing.

The budget does a lot of things that make me excited for our state. It favors hard-working families and creates a pro-business climate by holding property, sales, and income taxes steady and cutting several other taxes.

This budget addresses transportation and road funding concerns.  It dedicates $10 million to fixing roads, reduces transportation fund supported bonding by $308 million, and establishes more sustainable revenue streams to pay for roads in the future.

There is a $639 million increase in state aid to school districts. The UW System is getting $34.25 million more in funding and the tuition freeze will continue for another two years.  This means at the end of this budget, tuition will have been frozen for six consecutive years.

I am thrilled that the budget focuses on addressing mental health issues in Wisconsin. It commits the state to providing more access to dementia services, additional funding for child psychiatry, and increased mental health resources for students and educators.

As you can see, this budget will do a lot of good for Wisconsin!  It will now be considered by the Senate.

Sincerely,

Representative Paul Tittl
