School Safety Package Succeeds

Special Session 500.jpg

Hello,

What a week it has been! The Assembly debated the school safety package for many hours last week before passing a great plan that will protect our students, our schools, and our community. During session, I posed an important question to my colleagues: What is your greatest asset? My simple answer would be our children.

On Monday, Governor Walker signed a $100 million plan to bolster school security into law. This bill provides grants to schools for staff training and infrastructure improvements and garnered bi-partisan support in both the Assembly with a vote of 78-8 and the Senate with a vote of 28-4. For more on the entire school safety package, click here.

The session prayer was offered by Pastor Brian Schley, the student ministries and missions pastor at Faith Church in Manitowoc. Before becoming a pastor, he spent nine years as a middle school counselor. Pastor Schley shared great perspective on school safety and provided a prayer that primed us for the debate. I am grateful he, his wife and their four daughters were able to make the trip down to Madison!

You can see the whole floor session and my testimony on wiseye.org. As always, if there is anything I can do to assist you, please contact me. You can share your thoughts, find out additional information on issues, or see where I stand on any legislation. I look forward to hearing from you and, as always, working for you.

Sincerely,

Manufacturing has seen a jump of 11,800 significant jobs, and the labor force participation rate has reached 68.6% for February. This is exciting news for our state!
