Sign Language and Internships

  JE CM 525.jpg

Hello,

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! The legislature has not missed a beat, as committee meetings continue in preparation for session in January.

Today, I heard testimony during a public hearing for the Committee on Jobs and the Economy. There was a detailed discussion on two Democrat-led bills: AB 589 and AB 40.

AB 589 is authored by Representatives Brostoff, Skowronski and Kleefisch, and Senator Testin. The bill creates the Sign Language Interpreters Examining Board and changes the current sign language interpreter licensure program so it is administered by that board. Additionally, the bill updates the law to improve the quality and reliability of sign language interpreters.

AB 40's authors include Representative Barca and Senator Ringhand. The legislation establishes an entrepreneurial assistance grant that would be administered by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The grant would help new businesses hire college students as interns in a business, engineering, IT, or similar field.

I look forward to further discussing these bills. I am particularly excited about AB 589 to help improve the quality of life for a vulnerable population and help standardize sign language interpretation. If you have thoughts on these bills or any others, please contact me at my office.

Sincerely,

 Signature 200.jpg

Representative Paul Tittl

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...

The Capitol Christmas tree is up!  I would like to thank the many children from across the state who sent in ornaments to make the tree a unique and beautiful sight.  Can you spot your ornament?

Representative Brostoff, from the 19th Assembly District (Milwaukee) gave testimony today on the sign language bill, flanked on either side by the Republican co-authors.

Washington may be staunchly divided down party lines, but here in Madison we are willing to reach across the aisle to collaborate on bills that better the state.

Writing a Bill

On Wednesday evening I met with children from the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA Youth in Government group. They will be creating their own bills during the year and wanted to know more about the legislative process.

I look forward to seeing the bills they draft! Oftentimes, the best legislation doesn't come from people sitting in Madison, but from people around the state. If you ever have an idea for legislation, please share it with me to make Wisconsin a better place for all of us.
