Hello,

I hope this newsletter finds you out enjoying Wisconsin’s beautiful summer weather! When activity in the State Capitol slows down, I take every opportunity to be in communities throughout our district meeting with constituents and local businesses. How can the state government work better for you? What would you like to see changed? Hearing directly from constituents helps shape the work we do as we prepare for future legislative sessions. If you would like to set up a time to meet one-on-one with you or your organization, please reach out to my office.

If you see me around the district, please be sure to say hello! Thank you again for the opportunity to serve our community in the State Legislature.

With gratitude,

Deb

Summer In The 23rd

There is a lot to celebrate in our community. Opening new facilities, creating better access to healthcare, marking milestones for those serving our communities for years, and, as always, celebrating the great work happening all across the North Shore, Ozaukee County, and Wisconsin.

Rogers Behavioral Health Brown Deer

Rogers Behavioral Health has officially opened its new Brown Deer Outpatient Clinic and Lifewell Program! On July 1st, I joined the Rogers Behavioral Health team and local leaders to celebrate this new addition to the Brown Deer area and highlight the importance of having mental health resources available to the elderly community.

HEAR Wisconsin

HEAR Wisconsin is an organization that provides services to hard-of-hearing individuals in the Milwaukee area. This year, they are celebrating the incredible accomplishment of serving the state for 100 years. I had the wonderful opportunity to tour their facility and see the impact of their services on hard-of-hearing children, families, and seniors, with fellow colleagues from the Milwaukee area.

Brown Deer Town Hall Series
The Village of Brown Deer recently hosted another night of their Town Hall Series, with updates from Village President Wanda Montgomery, Brown Deer Superintendent Katrice Cotton, and Brown Deer School Board President Todd Beadle, as well as legislative updates from Senator Drake, Senator Habush Sinykin, Representative Goodwin, and myself.
Johnson Controls Tour
I recently had the opportunity to tour Johnson Controls in Glendale to learn more about their Innovation Center and see the employees at work up close. Their newly renovated facility has hundreds of employees dedicated to advancing technology and creating sustainable solutions. Their dedication to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions has helped equip buildings across Wisconsin and the United States with sustainable equipment.

Ascension St. Ben’s Mobile Health Clinic Ribbon Cutting

I had the pleasure of joining my fellow elected officials, local leaders, Outreach Community Health Centers, and Ascension staff and leadership in cutting the ribbon for their new mobile health clinic.

The St. Ben’s Mobile Unit will bring preventive and acute care directly to medically underserved residents in Milwaukee's highest-disparity neighborhoods, creating accessible health care options in locations where it is most needed to build healthier communities.

Gathering Waters Award Ceremony

Last Friday, Representative Paul Melotik and I attended the Gathering Waters Award Ceremony to honor the Director of the Ozaukee County Planning and Parks Department, Andrew Struck. Andrew was awarded the 2026 Harold “Bud” Jordahl Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of commitment to preserving the environment and waterways in Ozaukee County.

His work has helped secure millions of dollars in grants for Ozaukee County projects to protect and provide public access to our parks and natural spaces. If you see Andrew around, be sure to thank him for his many years of service to our community!

Salt Wise Advocacy Day

This week, I sat down with Martin Tirado and Michael Frank for the Salt Wise Advocacy Day in the Capitol to discuss the harmful effects of salt on our environment and infrastructure.

Did you know it only takes 1 teaspoon of salt to pollute 5 gallons of water? For every $100 spent on road salt, we incur over $3,000 in damages to built infrastructure and over $9,000 in damages to the environment.

Thank you to the Salt Wise team for their work in protecting our environment and for making the drive to Madison.

Legislative Honors

Wisconsin Conservation Voters - Conservation Champions Award

Last week, I was honored to once again be recognized by the Wisconsin Conservation Voters as a Conservation Champion.

I’m so proud to be recognized for my efforts this legislative session to support conservation, healthy communities, and a clean environment for my district and the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsinites deserve a sustainable and safe place to live, and I will continue to vote with these values top of mind going forward.

Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) - Champion of Commerce Award

I was also recently awarded a Champion of Commerce Award, presented by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC). I greatly appreciate their recognition of my efforts to work across the aisle and the legislation that has helped employees and employers in the Milwaukee region and throughout the state.
