Captain Douglas Dubnicka of the Fox Point Police Department was awarded the First Responder of the Year Award in our district. For 31 years, "Captain D" has served his community as a patrol officer, Sergeant, and currently, Police Captain in charge of all operational concerns. He has spearheaded critical incident preparedness in schools, served as a mentor to students, and led safety training programs in Milwaukee's North Shore. Thank you, Captain Dubnicka, for your service!
Climate Bill Launch
I joined my colleagues this week to launch Forward on Climate, a package of twenty-two bills designed to create good, family-supporting jobs, reduce inequality, and fight climate change through Wisconsin-centered policy. These bills were designed with input from hundreds of people across Wisconsin through the Governor’s Task Force on Climate Change.
I am a lead author of three bills in the climate package. These include requiring investor-owned utilities to spend 2.4 percent of their annual operating revenues - double what is currently required - to fund the Focus on Energy program (LRB 3437), creating a Shoreline Erosion Control Revolving Loan Program (LRB 0022), and a bill to allow the state superintendent of public instruction to adopt model academic standards related to climate change (LRB 4204).
Legislative Update
On November 11th, the Assembly considered two sets of maps: one set doubled-down on the 2011 Republican gerrymander and a second set created by the nonpartisan People’s Map Commission. I voted against the Republican gerrymander and in favor of the People's Maps. It is time to finally end gerrymandering in Wisconsin!
To read my press statement about the redistricting session, click here. Also, I gave two floor speeches about the proposed maps, one on the People’s Maps and one on the Republican maps.
MCTS Mobile Meet-Up
I believe it is important to meet constituents where they are -- which is why I boarded the MCTS Green Line on November 4th. With our current workforce shortage, reliable transportation has never been more important. Every rider had positive things to say about the current system and wanted to see it expanded- not cut. I support increasing investments in public transportation to reliably connect people to jobs all across the Milwaukee area.
Eagle Scout Recognition
I was thrilled to be invited to present a citation on behalf of Senator Darling and myself at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Thomas Dobrowits of Boy Scout Troop 398. Thomas’s Eagle Project involved the construction of an experiential hiking trail and Leopold benches at Indian Hill Elementary School, which will undoubtedly be enjoyed by the River Hills community for many years to come.
I am happy to recognize exceptional achievements from people across the district who are serving the community. To arrange a citation or letter of recognition, please contact my office.

Blue Books
The Wisconsin Blue Book, published biennially, is a terrific source for information about the State of Wisconsin. According to the Legislative Reference Bureau, the Blue Book's mission is "to furnish the legislature and the public with information about state officers and governmental organization, along with statistical information and articles of general interest." We are happy to provide you with a FREE copy and free delivery, as we did here at Homestead High School, upon request by clicking here.
Meeting with constituents is the best and most important part of my job. We hold weekly office hours at small businesses throughout the 23rd district to give you an opportunity to meet in person and discuss issues important to you with your elected representative. Click here to reserve your appointment on Friday mornings between 9:00 am--12:00 pm. If you prefer we can also schedule a phone call or Zoom. We look forward to hearing from you!
