On Monday, May 17th, Senator Jeff Smith and I introduced a bill that creates a process for transparent, nonpartisan redistricting. Hundreds of avid fair map supporters arrived at the State Capitol from all across the state, along with local leaders and a marching band to rally for this important legislation.
To learn more about the impact of fair maps, please read this editorial that Senator Smith and I co-authored.
Support for BadgerCare Expansion
I joined my colleagues for a press conference on Tuesday in support of BadgerCare expansion. The Governor called the legislature into special session to consider this popular proposal, but Assembly leadership quietly gaveled-in and gaveled-out without any discussion.
BadgerCare expansion would ensure access to quality health care coverage for all low-income individuals in our state, and would cover 90,000 more individuals. Wisconsin would also receive the additional federal dollars to invest in healthcare and other key budget priorities, like broadband, education and improvements to roads and bridges. Democrats and Republicans have plenty of areas of disagreement, but whether to take an extra billion dollars in federal healthcare funding should not be one of them. I will continue to advocate for BadgerCare expansion with my colleagues.
Office Hours
One of the most important parts of being a state representative is hearing directly from constituents, so I am pleased to offer both Zoom and in-person office hours. I hold in-person meetings at businesses in varying locations around the 23rd district.
Our next opportunity to meet in-person will be on Friday, June 4th at the Public Market in Mequon. You can schedule an in-person or a Sunday afternoon Zoom meeting with a quick click here. If the posted dates and time don’t fit your schedule please reach out to our office and we will be happy to make other arrangements.
