My staff and I join you in celebrating the Milwaukee Bucks' National Championship! It's been a summer to remember already, and there's lots more fun to come!
A Visit to the Wisconsin Black Historical Society/Museum
Thank you to the M7 Partnership and Metro Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) for hosting a roundtable on July 20th. The meeting included leaders from Milwaukee's business, technology and education sectors, and WEDC CEO Missy Hughes, DWD Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek, and DOA Secretary Joel Brennan. As a member of both the Workforce Development and Small Business committees in the Assembly, it was a great opportunity to learn more about innovative initiatives that can address our most urgent workforce challenges.
Budget Update--District Requests
At the beginning of the budget process, I was able to make two specific budget requests of the Governor for the 2021-2023 biennial budget. The first was to provide $375,000 annually for mental health crisis intervention training for law enforcement and correctional officers. I’m pleased to say that this funding was approved, and will be part of expanding the existing program.
The second item I recommended to the Governor was to find a way to support constituents and municipalities address erosion issues along the lakeshore and bluffs. I requested the creation of the Great Lakes Erosion Control loan program and better resources for homeowners. The measure would have provided $5 million in a revolving loan fund that would have been used to improve costal resiliency and repair damage caused by climate change and storms. Though this measure did not make it to the final budget bill, I am working on other ways to address this important issue.
Governor Evers Visits Grafton
It was our pleasure to welcome Governor Evers to Grafton on July 13th. He stopped-by Scrubs and Above, a Grafton Business that specializes in medical scrubs and restaurant apparel. It was great to talk business with co-owner April Calvert and team members from the Village of Grafton and the Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce. The Governor also visited with summer school students at Woodview Elementary, where some were learning coding, and others were storyboarding their own videos.
Meeting with constituents is the best and most important part of my job. We hold weekly office hours at small businesses throughout the 23rd district to give you an opportunity to meet in person and discuss issues important to you with your elected representative. Click here to reserve your appointment on Friday mornings between 9:00 am--12:00 pm. If you prefer we can also schedule a phone call or Zoom. We look forward to hearing from you!

Know the Facts: COVID-19 Variants
A COVID-19 variant is a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus that causes COVID-19. The longer a virus sticks around, the more opportunity it has to change. In Wisconsin, there are currently four variants of concern. Learn the characteristics of identified variants of concern and track cases in the state on the DHS COVID-19: Emerging Variants webpage.
Some of the variants, like the Delta, can spread more easily and can cause more severe illness. Fortunately, the COVID-19 vaccines available in the U.S. have shown to still provide good protection against the Delta variant. This is why DHS urges Wisconsinites who are unvaccinated to get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. Find a COVID-19 vaccine near you at www.vaccines.gov.
