Supreme Court Overturns Evers' Emergency Orders
The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled to overturn Governor Evers' multiple emergency orders, including the mask mandate. The oral arguments were held in November and today the Court ruled with a 4-3 vote. The Court agreed with the Wisconsin statutes that a governor cannot extend a public health emergency order beyond 60 days without the Legislature's consent. You may read the opinion here. The statewide mask mandate has ended but local municipalities still have the option to enforce their own mandates.
Campaigns & Elections Committee Hears Meagan Wolfe of WEC
The Campaigns & Elections Committee invited Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) Administrator Meagan Wolfe and Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich to testify at today's informational hearing. Mayor Genrich declined the invite despite his public comments declaring his wish to testify. The committee submitted an open records request from the WEC for any communications between the WEC and the City of Green Bay or any of the third parties associated with Green Bay's election. Administrator Wolfe discussed the WEC's knowledge of third party group Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) that assisted with the November 2020 election in Green Bay (and four other Wisconsin cities). She also answered many questions related to the emails from the open records request. You may watch the entire hearing on WisconsinEye. We will continue this investigation until we get to the bottom of this Green Bay election issue.
