Helping Waukesha

Words cannot express my deep sorrows for what happened at Waukesha’s Christmas Parade on Sunday evening. When such tragedy strikes in our own community, it traumatizes us. Everyone knows someone who was directly impacted and there are feelings of shock, terror, sadness, compassion, disgust and anger. It is an emotional roller coaster that each of us will have to get through.

For now, let’s focus on what we can do and what we can control. Many members of our community will be troubled by this event for a long time…physically and mentally. There is help and there are ways we can come together for our neighbors.

  • Waukesha County and its partners have set up an online giving portal for those who would like to make financial donations to the victims.
  • If you are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, dial: IMPACT 211, which is a free, mental health hotline, open 24/7.
  • Donating blood is another great way to help, either through Versiti or the American Red Cross.
  • And an easy way to show your support is to be extra kind. In general, you never know what people are going through, and right now, our community is hurting.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! As a nation, we have many advantages and conveniences. During this time of year, we hold our friends and family near as we reflect on the many blessings we have.

Here is an excerpt from George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789:

“. . . that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually--to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed . . .”

This Thanksgiving, may God bless you, your family and the United States of America.
