Ride-Along with South Milwaukee PD

On Monday morning, Chief Jessup (right) arranged for me to do a ride-along with Officer Hill (left) from the South Milwaukee Police Department to learn more about the day-to-day duties of our local police officers.

Officer Hill also took me on a ride-along in April of 2019. I am grateful for his ongoing hospitality, and thankful to all our local law enforcement for working to keep our community safe!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international health campaign to bring awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for breast cancer research.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 American women. Although rare, even men can get breast cancer, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 1,000.

However, the earlier cancer is detected, the easier it is to treat. Preventative measures such as knowing your family history, performing monthly self-exams, knowing your breast density, and getting mammograms can all increase your chance of finding breast cancer early. This can play a pivotal role in treating the cancer and improving chances of beating the disease.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused setbacks in cancer screenings and early detection. Spread the word this October about the importance of talking with your doctor about your risk for breast cancer!
