In an effort to mitigate the effects of COVID-19, I have decided to cancel my town hall meetings that were originally scheduled for Monday, March 16. This decision was made in accordance with CDC recommendations to not congregate in groups. The health and safety of our community is my top priority. My office is still available by phone and email.
COVID-19 Update
In light of what's going on with the novel coronavirus in our country, I wanted to provide some information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that you may find useful.
According to the CDC, here are some simple ways to protect yourselves and others:
Clean your hands often
Avoid close contact
Cover coughs and sneezes
Stay home if you're sick
Wear a face mask if you're sick
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
If you believe you may have been exposed to COVID-19, the CDC also has a helpful web page called What To Do If You Are Sick.
Additional resources can be found at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) website. They will continue to provide the most up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 here, and information about Wisconsin-specific outbreaks is always available here. The Outbreaks web page is updated weekdays by 2:00pm.
Miller Park Stadium Sales Tax will end on March 31
Earlier this session the legislature passed Assembly Bill 73 to end the 0.1% Miller Park Stadium Sales Tax in Milwaukee and surrounding counties. That legislation was signed into law by the Governor this past November. In the final step to end the Miller Park Tax, the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District board voted unanimously this week to end the tax on March 31st.
Constituent Spotlight: Meadowview Elementary School
Earlier this week, fourth graders from Meadowview Elementary School visited the Capitol on a field trip. In Wisconsin, students learn about state government in fourth grade, so oftentimes fourth grade classes from the district will come to Madison for a Capitol tour. I had the pleasure of greeting the students before their tour on the Assembly Floor. We talked about my job as a legislator and what a typical floor session looks like. My favorite part was interacting with the students by taking questions from the group!
