Adoption Bills Passed by the Assembly

The Assembly was on the floor this Wednesday to pass all eight bills that were introduced by the Speaker’s Task Force on Adoption. The committee was composed of bipartisan legislators that traveled throughout the state to hear recommendations on ways to improve the adoption system in our state. Committee members were tasked with identifying ways to reduce the costs and timelines associated with adoption.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, there were 754 adoptions in Fiscal Year 2018 and nearly 1,400 children waiting to be adopted. We hope to address some of those concerns by expanding eligibility for adoption assistance and granting voluntary post-adoption contact agreements for children in the foster care system.  It is always our goal to help our children in need find safe and loving homes.

All eight bills now head to the Senate for consideration.

On Wednesday, members of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin came to the Capitol to advocate for AB 569.  The bill makes changes to the conditions of liability for worker's compensation benefits for law enforcement officers and fire fighters who are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.  Constituents Steve and Tyler from Oak Creek and Brian from South Milwaukee visited my office and shared some of the concerns their industry is currently facing.  Thank you, gentlemen, for travelling to Madison to meet with me, and thank you for your service to our communities!
