GOP Proposes Middle Class Tax Cut

It was an exciting and busy week in Madison!

On Thursday, Assembly Republicans unveiled a Middle Class Tax Cut proposal providing $340 million in tax relief for couples making $150,000 or less and individuals with yearly income of $100,000 or less. The cut will be paid for using the $588.5 million surplus created due to responsible budgeting by Republicans over the last eight years.

This creative proposal will allow Gov. Evers to fulfill a major campaign promise he made to middle class families last fall. The governor’s original proposal would have raised taxes on farmers, manufacturers and hardworking families by eliminating the manufacturing and agriculture tax credit to pay for the tax cut. According to a UW report, the manufacturing and agriculture tax credit has led to the creation of 42,000 jobs in Wisconsin from 2013-2016. With the surplus created by Republicans there is no reason to raise taxes on families in Wisconsin.

I’m proud of the work we have accomplished over the years to reduce taxes and I’m looking forward to working with the administration to continue providing tax relief for the hardworking families in our community.

Assembly Health Committee Passes Bill to Protect Individuals with Pre-existing Conditions

This week, Assembly Republicans took the first step to fulfilling our promise to voters. The Assembly Committee on Health gave way to Assembly Bill 1 on Thursday, legislation that prohibits health insurers from denying coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions.

As many as one in six individuals in Wisconsin have a pre-existing health condition; nobody should have to fear losing access to healthcare due to a pre-existing condition.

The bill will be considered next week by the full Assembly and I’m hopeful Gov. Evers will sign this legislation into law when it reaches his desk. ​

State of the State

Next week Tuesday, Gov. Evers will deliver his first State of the State address before a joint session of the state Legislature. The address will begin at 7 pm. Follow along on wiseye.org.
