The 104th Wisconsin State Legislature Begins

On Monday, I officially began my fourth term as your state representative. I am honored and humbled to have been chosen to represent our district in the state Assembly and I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to continue moving Wisconsin Forward.

This session my colleagues re-elected me Majority Caucus Secretary and I will continue as Chair of the Family Law Committee. I will also serve on four other committees including, Education, Energy & Utilities, Health, and International Affairs and Commerce.

This legislative session we will continue to focus on a number of important issues including support for K-12 education, protecting those with pre-existing conditions, and finding innovative ways to grow our economy and address our workforce needs to name a few.

Like every session, there will be challenges along the way but my colleagues and I are committed to working together to solve problems to best serve our constituents.

Working Together

In November, Wisconsin voters chose divided government but they did not choose inaction. That means over the next two years my colleagues and I are committed to finding common ground with the new administration on important issue facing Wisconsin.

In the spirit of bipartisanship, on Thursday morning, my GOP colleagues and I delivered a letter to Gov. Evers offering to work on a number of issues that are important to all Wisconsin residents across the state.

Among the many issues I wanted to highlight a few that are important to our district:

Reducing income taxes – Wisconsin is known for having overly burdensome taxes. Gov. Evers expressed interest in reducing income taxes while campaigning last fall. Assembly Republicans look forward to working with the administration to reduce income taxes for all Wisconsinites.

Support for K12 education – Last session Assembly Republicans increased funding for K12 education by $636 million. Providing resources for our schools is top priority. Our goal is to increase funding to the two-thirds threshold previously eliminated under former Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle.

Reducing transportation debt – We cannot continue borrowing to fund our transportation system in Wisconsin. Instead we need innovative ideas to finance our highway needs. I’m hopeful bipartisan collaboration will lead to positive results.

Affordable childcare – The cost of childcare has risen considerably over the last several years, in some instance costing more than one year at a state college. It is out intent to work with the administration to find more affordable childcare options for hardworking parents.

Growing our workforce – It is well-known Wisconsin is facing a workforce shortage. Over the last four years we have made great strides to increase wages and create more jobs. But more needs to be done. We will need to work together to attract new talent and bring more qualified workers to our state.

The list is not exhaustive but it is a good starting point. I look forward to collaborating with the new administration to address important issues impacting our state.
