Joint Finance Agency Briefings

This week was a busy week in the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC). As is tradition at the beginning of the budget process, the committee invites state agencies to give a briefing on their portion of the Governor’s budget proposal. This also gives members of the committee a chance to ask questions of the respective agencies.

On Tuesday, we heard from Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor and her staff at the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and from Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek and her staff at the Department of Workforce Development (DWD). On Wednesday, we heard from Secretary Preston Cole and his staff at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and from Chairperson Rebecca Cameron Valcq and her staff at the Public Service Commission (PSC).

I appreciated hearing from these departments about the work they do and their priorities in the budget. I look forward to working with the other members of JFC to craft a responsible budget.
