Promoting Career and Technical Education Month
2-25-19 Nucor Tour.JPG2-25-19 ECAM Tour.JPG

This week, I met with local manufacturers and officials from MATC in Oak Creek to help promote Career and Technical Education Month. The visit featured a tour with instructors and lunch with school officials and directors from some of the most prominent manufacturers in our area to discuss their workforce needs.

MATC in Oak Creek, has a state of the art Center for Environmental Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing (ECAM) HVAC facility that has received national recognition for training and certification. The facility includes six laboratories; advanced manufacturing, welding, advanced software, energy solutions, HVAC computers and HVAC digital controls. The facilities prepare students for jobs in the trades and skilled manufacturing, jobs that often pay well above the state median income.

After the tour we met with local manufacturers from my district and the surrounding area to discuss ways to promote technical education and innovative ways to increase our workforce.

I look forward to continue building relationships with our tech colleges and employers to boost our workforce and to continue creating more jobs in southeastern Wisconsin.

Local Businesses Receive Awards

Last week, it was an honor to present awards to a few outstanding businesses in our community.

The South Suburban Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner and presented awards to Nucor Cold Finish of Oak Creek and Tri City National Bank of Oak Creek and South Milwaukee. Nucor earned the Environmental Sustainability Award and Tri City was named the 2018 Business of the Year.

Congratulations to both businesses for being great stewards of our community!
