The Week in Review
Reducing the
Tax Burden and Strengthening the Economy

Hello, I’m state Representative Jessie
Rodriguez.
This legislative session my colleagues and I continued our efforts to lower
the tax burden in Wisconsin by reforming state government. Since 2010, our
reforms have reduced the overall tax burden in Wisconsin by $8 billion
allowing taxpayers to keep more of their hard earned money and we even
eliminated the state portion of the property tax in the last budget.
Not only are taxes lower today than they were eight years ago, but our
reforms have also led to more job creation and a stronger state economy. In
fact, the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau announced in January,
Wisconsin will end the biennium with a significant surplus, and this week my
colleagues and I approved legislation that will put that money back in the
pocket of taxpayers with a tax rebate and a sales tax holiday later this
fall.
Responsible budgeting and smart reforms will help Wisconsin continue moving
forward.
Thanks for tuning in and have a nice weekend.
Unemployment Reaches Record-Low in Wisconsin
This week, the Department of Workforce
Development released new job numbers that show Wisconsin’s unemployment rate
is now the lowest in state history at a mere 2.9 percent, well below the
national average.
The numbers demonstrate our reforms are working to strengthen the economy
and continue to improve the job outlook. With continued job growth and low
unemployment Wisconsin continues moving forward!
