This week, the Assembly was on the floor Tuesday and Thursday to vote on
several bills relating to foster care and education.
One piece of legislation I was very supportive of makes changes to school
funding. This bill creates more equity in school funding. School districts
like Oak Creek-Franklin that traditionally spend less have been locked into
lower rates than other schools in southeastern Wisconsin that spend more.
This bill creates fairness by strategically directing aid to historically
frugal, low spending school districts. It provides an additional $25 million
dollars to more than 200 schools in 2018 and 19 and more than $130 million
dollars over the next six years. This comes in addition to the historic
investment in education included in the state budget.
The Assembly will be on the floor multiple days next week, so keep an eye
out for the next Rodriguez Recap.
Have a nice weekend!
