Violence Prevention

This week Governor Evers visited Milwaukee and announced a $45 million investment to ensure safer communities through violence prevention and support for crime victims. Under this new initiative, $25 million will go toward violence prevention efforts, and $20 million is allocated for victim services. The investments will aid in both statewide research initiatives and community-based solutions. The funding for victim services will help equip providers in meeting the recent increase in demand for these services.

The City of Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention will receive $8 million of the $25 million allocated for violence prevention. You can read more about these investments here

Beyond Vision

Beyond Vision has been doing great work in our community for many years. Although I will be sad to lose them as neighbors, I was honored to attend Beyond Vision's kick-off celebration for the new VisAbility Center in West Allis. This move will allow them to continue to expand their essential services and provide more opportunities for individuals in the greater Milwaukee area.

37th Street School Apartments

I was excited to celebrate the opening of the new 37th Street School Apartments at the Heartland Housing and Community First ribbon-cutting event this week. This new affording housing property brings high-quality housing at a low cost to adults 55 years+ in our Washington Park neighborhood.

One of the great parts of this project is that it was developed by constituents. I want to give special recognition to Rapheal Garcia and Lamont Davis for working towards this vision for nearly a decade. This project was created by neighbors for the benefit of the neighborhood and it's great to see that kind of reinvestment and commitment to Milwaukee.

Eviction Resource

Milwaukee residents can access free legal help through a new online resource, EvictionFreeMKE.org. This resource connects Milwaukee families with free lawyers and resources that help with the eviction process. EvictionFreeMKE is supported by a team of Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee lawyers who are dedicated to supporting folks with legal services at no cost. This resource has also partnered with Legal Action of Wisconsin, United Way, the City of Milwaukee, and Milwaukee County to address issues of housing insecurity in our communities.

Halloween in Milwaukee

Halloween is fast approaching and my family and I are looking forward to safely welcoming trick-or-treaters to our home and taking Miguel out for his first Halloween.

The City of Milwaukee has set 2021 trick-or-treat hours for 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 31st. The City has also provided guidelines and tips on how to keep the holiday COVID-safe. Please click here to learn more. Happy Halloween!
