The Goyke Report |
State Capitol In The District I was proud to join my friend, Charlie Munger, at Outpost Natural Foods as part of the "Take Your Legislator to Work" campaign. Charlie taught me a great deal about his job and how important customer service is to being successful. Thank you Charlie for inviting me and letting me be a part of your busy day!

I was proud to testify at a recent public hearing at Marquette University High School hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) regarding their proposed plans to expand the I-94 East-West corridor. Please know that I oppose this idea whether it be expanding the footprint horizontally or vertically with a double-decked highway. I have spoken with so many of you that are against this project due to the negative effect it would have on our neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. I will continue to work alongside you in this effort and to see the highway repaired within its current footprint.

Happy Holidays to you and your family! I hope over the coming days you are able to visit with friends, family, and those whom you love and support. I wanted to provide you with one more informational update before 2014 comes to a close and the new legislature convenes for Inauguration Day on January 5, 2015.
Since my last communication with you, there have been many happenings in our community and at the Capitol. I hope this update is helpful to keep you informed of my work on behalf of our community and ideas that I am proposing. I welcome any feedback or ideas you may have.
As your representative it is always my goal to be as accessible as possible. If your neighborhood association, club, or community group is having a meeting please consider inviting me to attend. We can discuss how your voices, values, and concerns influence my work in the Capitol. Please call my office at (608) 266-0645 and let me know about your local event. I’d love to visit with you in Milwaukee.

Welcome Fairing Factory, Slowpoke Cycles, and David's 4 Speeds to the 18th Assembly District!
I would like to welcome and highlight three new businesses in the 18th Assembly District. Fairing Factory, a company that manufactures ABS injection molded plastic products for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, recently purchased the AJ Pietsch cabinet building at 3535 W State Street and is in the process of converting it to be their US headquarters.
Also located within the same
building are two other new businesses - Slowpoke Cycles and David's 4
Speeds, LLC. Slowpoke Cycles manufactures electric bicycles and
retrofits current bicycles for electric use. David's 4 Speeds
specializes in the repair and cleaning of 60's and 70's vintage engines. Please join me in welcoming Fairing Factory, Slowpoke Cycles, and David's 4 Speeds to our community!

Legislative Council Study Committee:
This past summer and fall I served as Vice-Chair to a Legislative Council Study Committee that looked in depth at problem-solving courts, alternatives, and diversions. The committee examined veterans courts, drug and alcohol courts, and drunk driving courts in Wisconsin. I am extremely proud of the work done by the committee, as well as the sound policy recommendations put forward by its members. I was honored to work with the committee to propose legislation that will benefit Wisconsin, our treatment court systems, and save taxpayers money.
In my last update to you I promised to provide you with an overview of the committee's final recommendations. The proposals include:
- Approving access to treatment based on need and risk, not a person's background.
- Creating a grant program to establish family treatment courts to help parents who have problems related to mental illness or substance abuse.
- Reducing the minimum waiting period for an occupational license for a participant in a treatment court.
The
recommendations had overwhelming bipartisan support from the 16 members
of the committee, which included legislators, judges, prosecutors,
treatment providers and mental health advocates.

Legislation I Am Working On: Home Foreclosures and Abandoned Properties As I informed you in my last update, I will again lead the charge to change Wisconsin’s law related to foreclosed and abandoned homes. Our community should be empowered to solve this problem, which requires some changes to state law. I have begun meeting with my legislative colleagues and the City of Milwaukee to draft a thorough and sound proposal that will help our community, the City of Milwaukee, and the State of Wisconsin. I will keep you informed as bill drafts and proposals advance.

Look for a contact card at your door with information and a request for your personal feedback. Long-Term Proposal Update: * Redesign of Highway 41 - On December 11th I met with leadership at MillerCoors Brewing to discuss my ideas for a redesign of Highway 41 and share with the company the support for this idea from members of our community. MillerCoors would benefit from this redesign with brewing trucks having a more defined route to and from the brewery. This would prevent trucks traveling through and causing congestion in residential neighborhoods.
