On August 12th I was honored to be invited by Cold Spring Park Neighborhood residents to help dedicate their new community garden On July 29th I was proud to join the Near West Side Partners, Inc. along with Mayor Tom Barrett; Alderman Murphy; Alderman Bauman; Chief Flynn; and Keith Stanley at the unveiling of NWSP's new logo and website launch. Congrats! Many exciting things to come!

I hope this e-newsletter finds you and your family well and that you are enjoying your summer! When I am not at the Capitol I have enjoyed walking the family dog, jogging through our community, working on my home, and continuing my participation in Milwaukee's November Project.
Since my last update to you the State Legislature passed Wisconsin's 2015-2017 biennial budget and legislation regarding the sporting arena and entertainment district in Milwaukee. Even though the legislature will not fully convene until September, committees continue to meet and legislation is being drafted. I have been honored to attend a number of neighborhood events that continue to highlight the progress and build upon the momentum of positive growth in our community.
To also provide more news and daily updates I have expanded my official Facebook page. I hope it helps keep you informed. Please feel free to visit my page here.
I hope this e-update is helpful. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (608) 266-0645.
Rep. Goyke conferring with fellow legislators on the Assembly Floor during the 2015-2017 state budget debate Fall Legislative Session The state legislature continues in its current session. While the Assembly will not be meeting as a full body until September, committees continue to meet and legislation is being drafted. Our community is represented at every step in this process. I want to provide you with an update on legislation you will see me introduce on behalf of our community this fall. I hope the summary below is helpful in keeping you informed. Please reach out to me as well on any ideas for legislation. More often than you may think the ideas for legislation come from local constituents bringing their ideas to their respective legislator. I welcome your thoughts and proposals at any time. Local Control on Tobacco Shops
Our community has no recourse
to stop the saturation of tobacco shops. Far too frequently these shops
are magnets for crime and disorder. I am working on legislation that
would empower our local community to hold these retailers accountable.
Milwaukee has several
Business Improvement Districts, which are valuable tools for economic
development. Wisconsin's law on BID's fails to allow a BID
to expand its borders efficiently. I am working on legislation that
would provide greater flexibility for our local BID districts as they
continue to grow our local economy. Criminal Justice Reform is an issue I constantly work on. This fall, several proposals will be introduced with bi-partisan support. I have worked across the political aisle to find common ground on this issue and progress is being made. Stay tuned this fall for the release of several positive steps in reforming our justice system. Telling Milwaukee's Story and Highlighting Our Progress As Chair of the Milwaukee delegation of legislators, I have been working very hard with my colleagues on authoring a publication that highlights the positive growth and new initiatives that make our City great. You and I see them everyday and know that far too often the lens in which some view our City is clouded by negative news. As your State Representative I am fighting to change that. Our neighboring communities and fellow citizens out-State need to know Milwaukee's value to Wisconsin. This fall you will see me release a publication that highlights our growth, progress, and presents the very reasons why individuals should invest in Milwaukee. Whether it be residential development, small business growth, our children, schools, or recreational opportunities, among many examples - Milwaukee has a bright future and as Chair it is my pledge to ensure its story is told. Stay tuned for updates on this project, as well as the final version for your review. Goyke/Kooyenga School Reading Challenge With the start of the new school year upon us I have joined with Rep. Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield) to challenge ourselves and our neighbors to volunteer and read to children at a local school in need. We are very excited about this initiative and encourage you to join us! Each of us remembers how important having an individual read to us was in our early education. Our offices stand ready as a resource to connect you with volunteer coordinators. I look forward to providing updates as our challenge progresses. A summary of our challenge may be found here.
