Meet Russell,
A dedicated public servant, musician, and ordained reverend.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Russell grew up with a passion for music and service. As a teen, he participated in youth ministry and school band, laying the foundation to launch a successful record label in early adulthood. While producing R&B and gospel music, Russell remained active in local ministry. He later went on to found The Movement Center Church, where he still serves as a volunteer pastor today.
Russell credits much of his inspiration to the Black Church. Their enduring perseverance and collective strength stands as a pillar of revolution, resilience, and social progress in America. Personal to Russell's faith journey, they exemplified a lasting model of civic engagement and service-driven action that emphasized the criticality of collective mobilization. While holding no public office, he forged partnerships with small businesses and local leaders to uplift the most vulnerable.
With unwavering commitment, he advocated for the unhoused, tackled the challenges of teen pregnancy, and worked to ensure that every Milwaukee child had the school supplies they needed to succeed. For Russell, service wasn't a side mission. Service was the heart of his ministry.
As an active member of his community, Russell was also deeply aware of the direct challenges facing him and his neighbors. He understood the dangers reckless driving posed for Milwaukee and the necessity for investments in road safety infrastructure. Likewise, having been a student at MPS, he was keenly aware of the ramifications of decreased state funding and the inequity it perpetuates. Moved to address these issues, Russell began his public service career in 2020 as a member of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. He served from 2020 to 2022.
Today, Russell is proud to serve the good people of Wisconsin's 12th Assembly District as their state representative. He remains dedicated in his pursuit of uplifting his community and amplifying their voices through legislation. When he is not working, he can be found at church, attending a Brewer's game and spending time with his family.
