Statement from State Representative Dora Drake regarding Inauguration Day on January 4, 2021, and  announcement of comprehensive legislation to address the COVID-19 pandemic throughout Wisconsin

Madison- Today, State Rep. Dora Drake (D-11th Assembly District Milwaukee) announced she will not be attending inauguration day in person on January 4, 2021. Rep. Drake released the following statement:

“As leaders, we need to be role models for what we are advocating for in our communities. We are still in the midst of a pandemic as cases continue to rise in Wisconsin.  It is practical and wise judgement to take safety precautions for everyone’s health until vaccinations can be accessible to everyone. To minimize the rate of COVID-19, I had the pleasure of attending a virtual-swearing in ceremony on December 28, 2020 by Governor Evers himself, which is available on social media avenues. For these reasons, I will not attend the in-person inauguration ceremony on January 4, 2020”.

“As legislators, we must also be held accountable in our actions so we can all prevent the spread of COVID-19. At the same time, we are also responsible for passing legislation that will address the issues of our time such as unemployment, lack of housing, access to healthcare, and social justice”.

“My office is ready on day one to perform the work I was sworn and elected to do for the 11th Assembly District and its constituents. I’m excited and eager to advocate on the issues/needs in the district and have been safely working in the district since Election Day”.
