Town Hall Meetings:
I will be hosting Town Hall Meetings at the  West Allis, Greenfield, and Zablocki libraries to address our legislative priorities and discuss the current session.  The meetings will be held sometime this Fall.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts and/or concerns.

Free for the Asking:  I would be happy to supply Bluebooks, highway maps and flags.  If you would like a tour of the Capitol, I would happy to show you around.  I am also more than willing to make classroom visits.

Jordy Nelson: As we are struggling to cope with the season-ending injury to Jordy Nelson, I hope the following provides some consolation:  The last time a Packers top wide receiver suffered a season-ending injury was in 1996 (Robert Brooks).  That was also the year the Packers beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI.  Keep hope alive!

Packers Record: 2-0

Lastly, please let me know of any questions and/or concerns you may have for me as I continue to go door-to-door to meet you all!

Friends and Neighbors,

I am honored to represent the people of the 7th Assembly District (Milwaukee, West Allis, West Milwaukee, and Greenfield), and I look forward to working hard for our shared values in the State Assembly.

I have included information about upcoming events in the district, bills that I have authored and sponsored, and key legislative changes that have been made so far in 2015.

I hope you find this information helpful, and please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Daniel Riemer
State Representative
7th Assembly District

Over the course of the session, the following key policy changes have occurred, particularly within the 2015-2017 State Budget:

K-12 Education:

I am working hard to strengthen our public schools. I authored legislation that will increase both special education funding (AB 294) and school district revenue limits (AB 295).

By contrast, Governor Walker and legislative Republicans expanded the private school voucher program statewide, creating a second education system our state cannot afford. Republicans also lowered standards for teachers and put in place a misguided plan to let the county takeover MPS schools.  This is the wrong choice for our public schools and for our children’s future;

Higher Education: Investing in UW-Milwaukee and other UW schools is an investment in our middle class. Governor Walker proposed a $300 million cut to our colleges and universities. Legislative Republicans proposed and passed a $250 million cut in the state budget. I opposed these massive cuts, and I will continue to fight to strengthen these assets that boost our economy and provide a path to the middle class;

Health Care:
I authored legislation (AB101) that will strengthen BadgerCare, cover tens of thousands of Wisconsites, and save the state hundreds of millions of dollars. Those additional resources could be used to balance our budget and invest in our middle class;

SeniorCare:  SeniorCare is an effective program for the thousands of Wisconsinites that use it, and costs less than Medicare Part D. I worked hard to preserve SeniorCare, and I am happy that SeniorCare will remain in place;

Long-Term Care:  IRIS is a critical program ensuring people with disabilities maintain their independent decision making when it comes to their own medical care.  However, Governor Walker and the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) proposed folding FamilyCare and IRIS into one program, which would have jeopardized the quality of care for the individuals who rely on these services. I worked tirelessly to ensure that programs like FamilyCare and IRIS remained available so participants could stay in their homes, keep working, and remain independent;

Transportation:  Maintaining our local streets is my top transportation priority.  I have been working hard to prevent excessive borrowing for transportation, including $1.3 billion proposed by Governor Walker for unneeded freeway expansion.  I believe that building wider freeways while our city streets fall into disrepair is the wrong priority for our transportation dollars. I will continue to advocate for local street repair and effective public transportation while fighting against unnecessary freeway expansion in our neighborhoods.

Walking the 7th District Neighborhoods

I had the privilege of participating in the "100 Miles in 100 Days Walk" with Mayor Tom Barrett in Bluemound Heights.
