Rep. Steineke Supports Aid for Wisconsinites Affected by COVID-19

MADISON – In its first floor period of the new legislative session, the Wisconsin state Assembly passed AB1 approving aid for hard-working Wisconsin families, healthcare workers, and small businesses who have been negatively impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. State Representative Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the following statement regarding his support of the bill:

“I am incredibly proud that the legislature was able to come together today, at a time when so many Wisconsinites are still struggling, to provide the necessary relief our hard-working neighbors deserve. Assembly Bill 1 is the first bill of the new legislative session and undoubtedly will be one of the most important for our communities.

“This bill implements ideas and priorities from both sides of the aisle, and should have been an easy bipartisan vote. Common sense solutions, like getting public employees back to work in a safe manner, easing restrictions on open enrollment for students and parents, and providing legislative oversight for federal CARES dollars are not only what Republicans have been advocating for, but what the voices from our communities demand.

“While my Democratic colleagues are deciding to, once again, place politics above people, Assembly Republicans will continue to show up and do the work necessary to beat this pandemic and return to normalcy. I am hopeful that Governor Evers will allow common sense to prevail and sign AB 1 into law.”
