Assembly Majority Leader Reacts to Court Ruling
WI SUPREME COURT FINDS EVERS OVERSTEPS LAW
MADISON — Following months of deliberations, this morning the Wisconsin State Supreme Court ruled that Governor Evers overstepped the law when he offered multiple emergency orders without seeking the consent of the legislature. The Court finds that without authority granted by the co-equal legislative branch, Evers’ subsequent mask orders were done illegally and any existing order is now void.
Upon learning of the Court’s decision, Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the following statement:
“Today’s ruling only validates what we’ve known all along – Governor Evers has been using his office to break the law for months. This decision is welcome, but long overdue.
“As we continue work to safely reopen our state, I’d encourage the governor to rethink his go-it-alone approach to leading.”
