An Important Step in the Fight to End Homelessness
MADISON – Following news that the Wisconsin state Senate plans to act on a crucial piece of the Republican “A Hand for the Homeless” package during their upcoming floor session, Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the following statement:
“With more than 20,000 known individuals around the state experiencing homelessness, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the state Senate for joining in on this crucial fight. Their vote of support of Assembly Bill (AB) 119 next week is an important first step in addressing this need and helping individuals get back on their feet and ultimately into their own homes. However, there remains much more work ahead.
“We must not lose sight of the fact that there’s no one solution to ending homelessness. AB 119 is one piece of the Republican-lead ‘A Hand and a Home: Foundations for Success’ initiative that can and will help individuals ultimately become less dependent on government services. However, this bill is not a silver bullet.
“I’d like to personally thank the many senators who have helped champion this cause by adding their names to this package of bills as sponsors. I look forward to continuing to work with my senate colleagues in the days to come and focusing on how to deliver this package of important legislation to the governor’s desk.”
