Proposed Legislation to Prevent Future Backlog of Sexual Assault Kits
This past month I proposed legislation addressing timelines for sexual assault kits. Under current law, there is no statutory procedure for the collection and processing of sexual assault kits. This lack of process led to a backlog of kits that were not being submitted to the state crime laboratory for testing.
Backlogs and bureaucracy should never be a barrier to justice. Sexual assault victims deserve a more effective and efficient system than that and we are taking a major step forward in delivering it.
This week Governor Evers signed my consumer protection bill (Assembly Bill 3) into law. This bill allows the Department of Transportation to more adequately protect Wisconsinites from fraudulent activity in automotive sales.
