STATE PARKS CLOSED INDEFINITELY
Yesterday, Governor Evers closed 40 Wisconsin State Parks, Forests and Recreational Areas until further notice. The parks are generally located in the South Central Region, Northeast Region and Southeast Region. You will find a list with the parks affected here.
Governor Evers indicated the indefinite closures are due to "the unprecedented crowds, litter, vandalism and out of an abundance of caution to protect public health and safety and help flatten the curve".
CORONAVIRUS RELIEF
My legislative colleagues and I are continuing to work on a bipartisan package to help Wisconsin respond to the coronavirus outbreak. The package will include dozens of important and impactful initiatives, including a temporary elimination of the one-week waiting period for unemployment benefits.
LETTER TO GOVERNOR EVERS
Given the Evers administration can unilaterally determine how to spend the $2 billion in federal coronavirus funding (CARES Act), Assembly Republicans sent Governor Evers a letter outlining our requested priorities for the federal money coming our way.
The letter asked the governor to set the following priorities when appropriating the federal dollars:
Needs of hospitals and healthcare facilities
Safeguards for business owners and worker
Assistance to local governments
Assembly Republicans also pointed out in the letter that because of the financial toll the pandemic will have on the economy, it’s important that the administration be as mindful as possible in its spending decisions. "Considerations like tax increases or other economically detrimental policies cannot and should not be an option,” the letter states.
We must do what’s best for the taxpayers of the state and help Wisconsin heal from this unprecedented public health emergency.
