Reminder- Call to Action on Coal Pile Project
From the day WPS announced the closure of its coal-fired Pullium Power Plant at the mouth of the Fox River, I have been working with local, county, state and federal officials to get the coal pile storage site along the Fox River (near Mason Street bridge) relocated to the WPS site. This will not only consolidate our county’s two major coal storage locations into one but produce a $200 million brownfield redevelopment opportunity for Green Bay on the vacated 40-acre riverfront property. Furthermore, the Brown County Port Authority will secure over 200 acres of port expansion space at the mouth of the river – the largest port expansion project of any state on the entire Great Lakes in two generations. Historic. Transformative. Once-in-a-lifetime. However, the Wisconsin State Senate needs to pass my bill (AB 325) IN THE NEXT SIX WEEKS to make this possible. Without this bill’s passage, this project may NEVER HAPPEN.
So, I’m contacting you today to ensure you were aware of this pivotal moment in history, and most importantly, ask for your help. Without your involvement to persuade our State Senate that this bill and project deserve a floor vote now, all may be lost – forever.
An important note:
This is a bipartisan piece of legislation authored by me and Sen. Cowles and supported by several Democrat legislators, including Sen. Dave Hansen and Rep. Staush Gruszynski.
Here’s my two-part ask of you:
1. Sign onto this on-line petition (established by On Broadway, Inc.)
2. Contact the following State Senators to let them know how important this project is to you and Brown County, and that you expect them to return to Madison to pass it, so Governor Evers can sign it.
The Assembly AB 325 in bi-partisan fashion a year ago, and now the Senate needs to do it’s part.
