Welcome to my e-update

Thank you for subscribing to my legislative e-update! This communication will outline what's happening in the Capitol and highlight my efforts while representing you and the state of Wisconsin. On occasion, I will also profile some of our great Green Bay area people and programs that make our community a better place. I hope you enjoy it!

Disaster Claim Consumer Protection Act

This week, a bill I authored (AB-357) that assists and protects Wisconsin residents during the difficult and vulnerable time following a natural disaster received its first public hearing.

This legislation prevents victims of a natural disaster from becoming victims of unscrupulous insurance adjusters. Under current law, insurance adjusters who are not affiliated with a Wisconsin license insurance company are operating with little state oversight and even less protection for the consumer.  It is important that we create certain standards, limits and licensing requirements for anyone representing our impacted communities and families.  This commonsense series of consumer protections is a big step forward in that direction.

Sexual Assault Kits Bill Update

On Thursday, the Senate Committee on Insurance, Financial Services, Government Oversight and Courts in an executive session passed legislation that I introduced which creates procedures for the collection and processing of sexual assault kits.

Next step is for it to be scheduled for the floor to be voted on.

We owe it to sexual assault survivors and their families to ensure that local law enforcement and hospitals submit sexual assault kits to the state crime lab quickly in order to avoid any unnecessary delays. Every single assault kit that is untested represents a human being who went through an awful trauma, and they deserve to have their case fully investigated.
