Honoring
our Law Enforcement
This week I had the unique opportunity to join
with a number of law enforcement officers, the
Attorney General, and community members in
participating in a vigil held at our state
capitol to honor our members of law enforcement.
The vigil was held at the Wisconsin Law
Enforcement Memorial, which is a memorial
recognizing our state's officers who have died
while in the line-of-duty. You may recall that
this memorial was recently vandalized. The
memorial has now been restored, and the vigil
was particularly moving given these recent
events. During my time as a state legislator, I
have taken the lead on a number of proposals to
support our law enforcement, including making
targeting a law enforcement officer a hate-crime
in Wisconsin and enabling the law enforcement
memorial license plate to include a donation
component that will directly assist this
important memorial organization. I am incredibly
proud to support our law enforcement and being
able to take part in this display of community
support was a true privilege.

GBCI
Discussion Continues
This session, I have been focused on finding a
responsible and effective solution to the many
issues facing the Green Bay Correctional
Institution. These issues include: the
increasing costs of maintaining this outdated
facility, capacity concerns relating to
overcrowding, and control/care concerns that
have continued to grow over the past several
months and years. This week, the Senate
Committee on Government Operations, Technology,
and Consumer Protection held a public hearing on
my proposal to decommission GBCI and replace it
with a privately owned and publicly operated
facility in the Brown County area. This creative
solution allows for significant savings in
taxpayer dollars over the next ten years, would
alleviate the capacity, control, and care
concerns currently plaguing this outdated
facility, and allow for the existing property to
be redeveloped into a more economically
beneficial use of land. I am encouraged by the
continued discussion on this issue. The many
problems currently facing GBCI aren't going away
and it's important that we continue to move
forward on developing solutions. You can watch
the full hearing by clicking on the photo below.

Thanks for
the Tour!
I
recently had the opportunity to stop by and tour
the Triangle Distributing Company to learn more
about the beverage distribution business. It was
fascinating to learn more about this incredible
business and the positive impact that it has not
only within its industry, but within our
community as well. A big thanks to Gary and Jim
for taking the time to show me around!
