Recently, I was honored to participate in an Employment Summit organized by the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities. I learned from employers and employees about the numerous benefits of hiring people with disabilities. These collaborative occupational efforts provide a myriad of benefits to companies engaged in disabled hiring programs available and being developed in Wisconsin. Most importantly, these programs provide disabled individuals with independence, income and a sense of purpose and productively.

"Employers have recognized for some time that it's smart business to have a diverse workforce - one in which many views are represented and everyone's talents are valued. Well, disability is part of diversity."-Thomas Perez

I am joining several of my legislative colleagues in forwarding the
Better Bottom Line Initiative, which includes several proposals and programs that help those with disabilities integrate positively into the workforce. Watch for progress reports on this initiative in upcoming Legislative Updates.
