Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
Attn: Secretary Preston Cole
Dear Secretary Cole:
The Brillion Nature Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) environmental education center that operates within the Brillion Wildlife Area. The group works hard to provide environmental education opportunities and outdoor experiences for area schools and the general public.
Unfortunately, the Brillion Nature Center has been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. They had to cancel their annual spring banquet fundraiser, which raises approximately 80% of the revenue necessary to fund its operations. In addition, the organization is still unable to host small group events because of mandates from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Currently, the Brillion Nature Center is dangerously close to closing completely and laying-off their naturalist. This would be disastrous for the organization.
Stores are open. Bars and restaurants are open. Wisconsin State Parks and wildlife areas are open. I encourage you to permit the Brillion Nature Center to host outdoor events. These events are vital to the organization and the community.
The Brillion Nature Center has done excellent work for the local community to enjoy for over 30 years. The coronavirus will eventually pass. It is my hope that the state’s actions do not adversely affect our ability to protect, conserve, and promote wildlife now and in the future.
Sincerely,
Ron Tusler
