Rep. Tusler Reacts to Governor’s 2018 Address

Madison, WI – Representative Ron Tusler (R - Harrison) released the following statement after Governor Walker’s State of the State Address:

“Last year was a historic year for Wisconsin. Our unemployment rate was down to a record three percent. We invested a historic $639 million investment in K-12 education—a $200 per pupil increase in funding this school year and a $204 increase next year. We eliminated the State property tax and have cut income taxes, saving the average family $1,400 since 2010. And we are reversing the brain-drain by attracting companies like Foxconn and Haribo, which are providing well-paying jobs and having millions of dollars in economic impact across the state.

“Looking forward, I am particularly excited about the plan to help rural schools keep more money in the classroom. I have co-sponsored the legislation Governor Walker endorsed today and hope my legislative colleagues will join me by addressing this problem. This, along with ideas like the $50 million Rural Economic Development Fund the Governor is proposing, recognize the problems rural Wisconsin faces. That is why I am proud to have joined the Rural Wisconsin Initiative when I first got to the legislature.

“Additionally, the Governor also suggested creating a $100 refundable tax credit for every child under 18 years old. This is an innovative idea that gets taxpayers’ own money back in their own wallets.

“I am grateful for the Governor’s leadership over the past seven years and look forward to another historic year ahead.”
