Rep. Tusler Joins Rural Wisconsin Initiative

Madison, WI – Representative Ron Tusler (Harrison) announced his support for the Rural Wisconsin Initiative today.

“I am thrilled to join a great group of legislators and express my support for the constituents in my district. Often the issues that get the most attention are driven by the urban centers in our state, but as legislators we must address issues that affect our rural communities too,” said Rep. Tusler.

Rural Wisconsin Initiative (RWI), launched last legislative session, was designed as an umbrella to bring together rural legislators working to address the needs of areas that are sometimes overlooked in Madison. The group comprised of 23 Representatives is led by Reps. Ed Brooks (Reedsburg), Romaine Quinn (Rice Lake) and Travis Tranel (Cuba City).

Bills in the RWI package focus on four areas of particular concern for rural areas: education, workforce development, health care and technology.

Rep. Tusler strongly supports Governor Walker’s proposed $13 million increase in funding for the Broadband Grant program.

“Broadband access helps teachers incorporate more technology in the classroom and lets students get homework done more easily at home,” said Rep. Tusler.

Rep. Tusler is passionate about legislation focusing specifically on workforce development. “I am especially excited to support programs that give our students the skills needed to fill manufacturing and technology jobs throughout the state. Brillion High School’s STEM program serves as an exemplary model of how education and business should work hand-in-hand.”

Rep. Tusler stressed that the most important aspect of the Initiative was public involvement. “I want to hear ideas from constituents of the 3rd District so we can work towards finding solutions,” said Rep. Tusler.
